Product Description
The Sigma Circular Polarizing Filter allows you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water and glass, and they also improve color saturation, clarity and contrast. This threaded filter is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds, for example. Polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot, and they will provide protection for your lens while shooting. This filter is recommended for color and black & white film, as well as digital photography. A polarizer is different than most filters in that it is composed of two pieces of glass, mounted independently inside a round frame so that one can be rotated relative to the other. As it is rotated, it increasingly cuts out glare and haze. With an SLR, you can actually observe this change through the viewfinder. Polarizers reduce glare from water, glass, or any non-metallic surface. You can also use a polarizer filter to darken blue skies. Polarizers come in two versions, linear and circular, and autofocus cameras will perform best with a circular polarizer, since a circular polarizer allows for proper exposure metering and/or autofocus distance settings.Amazon.com Product Description
The Sigma AFI960 EX DG 86mm Single-Coated Circular Polarizer Filter is used to select which light rays enter your camera lens, and which light rays are reflected. This lens can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. This effect can be seen through the viewfinder, and changed by rotating the filter, while the factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.The Sigma AFI960 filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots, as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance. This single-coated circular polarizer has an 86-millimeter thread size, and a filter factor between 2.3 and 2.8, which is approximately 1.3 f/stops. The AFI960 is constructed of high-quality optical glass, and is backed by a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
